On the occasion of the joint fight against the new coronavirus pneumonia, in order to meet the needs of the teachers and students of our school to study at home, the library specially organizes the following methods for accessing resources outside the school for your reference.

Method 1: Use school SSL VPN

SSL VPN is the abbreviation of Security Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network, which is a virtual private network technology with security encryption protection.

The SSL VPN service is provided by the school information center to facilitate the entire school’s teachers and students to safely access the resources ordered by the school. For details, see the following:

The system access address is as follows: https://webvpn.cup.edu.cn, no client and plug-in are required, and you can directly access it on the browser (the account password is the same as the online account).

Precautions for use: It is recommended to use browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, Microsoft Edge, IE11, Safari, etc. for access. 

Method 2: Accessing library resources outside the school based on CARSI Shibboleth

Based on the CARSI Shibboleth method, there is no need to download the client. It can be used after logging in with the school's unified certification platform account on the designated page. Now only some data providers support this certification access method, and further application is still in progress.

The general steps for Shibboleth to access the database outside the school:

①Find the database login interface;

②Choose "Login via Institution" or "Login via Shibboleth";

③Select the group "China CERNET Federation" to which this institution belongs;

④Choose the institution "CHINA University of Petroleum" or "中國石油大學（北京）";

Or skip step ③ and find the link address of this institution by searching the name of the institution "CHINA University of Petroleum" or 中國石油大學（北京）";

⑤ Use the school's unified certification platform (information portal) to log in with the student (work) number and password.

Method 3: Methods of Visiting Some Resources Off-campus

1. The ProQuest dissertation full-text library contains excellent doctoral and master's theses from well-known universities in Europe and the United States. During the epidemic, PQDT provides roaming function, which can be used for roaming within 3 months after the account is activated.

Account activation method: activation in IP or VPN activation PQDT full-text library website registration/login to a personalized account, after binding the institution according to the prompts, account roaming is activated.

2. ScienceDirect provides individual school email registration and activation methods.
